Japanese Dramas

Japanese dramas tend to be shorter in length than other Asian dramas. They are less melodramatic, less … emotional, I would say. These dramas range from 9 to 12 episodes, and are quieter than other Asian dramas. I tend to be left feeling wanting more at the end of a Japanese drama.

I don’t watch as many Japanese dramas as I do Korean, but I do enjoy the dramas that I watch. My favorite actor is Kimura Takuya, and I like Koyuki and Shinohara Ryoko in the actress pool. I have seen a mix of romance and “idol” dramas, and I think each type has its own charm.

I’ve listed the dramas that I have seen below, with a rating of how much I liked them. I’ve also added hyperlinks of the dramas that I have discussed thus far:

  1. Hello! I like Kimura Takuya too… though I didn’t understand what all the hubbub was about until I saw Long Vacation and started watching some of his older dramas… oh my!

  2. I am like the complete opposite way of you. I am (or used to be) a complete jdrama person. I mean I’m not as into them as I used to be since there aren’t really any good ones airing this season. So recently I’ve started watching Korean dramas and I agree with you when you say Japanese dramas tend to be shorter and less emotional. With the short season (usually 8-10 episodes) character development doesn’t usually have enough time to be fleshed out.

I really enjoying the Korean drama I’m watching (Playful Kiss)and I think I can get used to watching longer dramas.

    Sorry about the rant 🙂

    • Thanks for the reply. I’m glad you’re trying Korean dramas, and you can always watch both, once good Jdramas start showing again. I do enjoy the longer Korean dramas, because of the character development. It’s another thing if I don’t enjoy the personalities the characters have at the end, but I feel because there are so many to pick from, you can just move on to the next one. I also watched Playful Kiss, and I enjoyed it. Hope you have fun watching it.
